Acct Advisory Board

The University of Notre Dame Accountancy Advisory Board consists of professional accountants, business leaders, and academics from throughout the nation. The board meets twice a year with the Department of Accountancy faculty to advise and help maintain professionally relevant educational programs in accountancy at Notre Dame. The meetings are designed to elicit input from the board to keep our programs on track with current developments and trends in the profession. The accountancy faculty views the Accountancy Advisory Board as a critical element of its continuous efforts to respond to changes in the business environment.

    • Ann Marie is a Tax Director in the federal tax practice of PricewaterhouseCoopers with over 15 years of combined audit and tax experience. She is responsible for a full range of tax services, including tax consulting, accounting for income taxes and tax compliance. Ann Marie's experiences include auditing income tax provisions of large multinationals, including the complex transactions inherent in them, preparing worldwide consolidated income tax provisions, designing internal controls around a global tax provision process, consulting on tax provision and compliance process, tax department design and technology improvements, and consulting on a variety of federal and state income tax matters. Her clients are primarily large multinational manufacturers and service providers.

      Ann Marie graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1996, Cum Laude, with a Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy and a minor in Theology. She returned to Notre Dame three years later to join the second Master of Science in Accountancy class, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 2000.

      Ann Marie returns to Notre Dame often for football, campus interviews of both undergraduate and graduate accounting students, the annual fall and winter Career Fairs, Beta Alpha Psi events, and other events focused on accounting students.

    • Matt, a member of the Notre Dame Law School faculty since 1990, received his accounting degree, summa cum laude, from Notre Dame in 1982 and graduated summa cum laude from Notre Dame Law School three years later. Following his graduation, he served as a law clerk for Judge Cornelia G. Kennedy of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and later practiced as a tax lawyer with Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease in Columbus, Ohio. He teaches various business-related courses, including Accounting for Lawyers, Analytical Methods for Lawyers, and Federal Income Taxation.  He has also taught courses on business associations, business planning, and not-for-profit organizations and seminars on the stock option scandals and the credit crisis. He is co-author of the unabridged and concise versions of Materials on Accounting for Lawyers, the leading law school texts in the field that have been adopted at more than 100 law schools across the country. He is a certified public accountant (inactive) and was awarded the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants' Silver Medal and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants Elijah Watt Sells certificate for performance With High Distinction for his performance on the May 1982 Uniform Certified Public Accountant Examination. He is a member of the Committee on Law and Accounting, Section on Business Law, American Bar Association, and has chaired the Committee on Audit and Association Investment Policy for the Association of American Law Schools. In addition to participating in the Tax Assistance Program, he helps handle tax and not-for-profit corporation issues for the Notre Dame Legal Aid Clinic and has advised South Bend's Center for the Homeless on various tax and corporate matters. He is married to Kate Barrett, who works part-time as a Program Director in Campus Ministry. They have three sons and one daughter.

    • Ryan Brady is a senior manager with Grant Thornton LLP’s Accounting Principles Consulting Group (APCG) in Chicago.

      Ryan’s work focuses mainly on accounting for debt and equity transactions, derivatives, and hedging arrangements. Before joining the APCG, he worked in the firm’s Chicago audit practice serving private and publicly traded clients, primarily in the consumer and industrial products industry. Ryan also completed a two year international rotation with Grant Thornton LLP’s affiliate firm in Hong Kong, working primarily with SEC registrants and private companies reporting under US GAAP in China and throughout Southeast Asia.

      Ryan holds BBA and MS degrees in accountancy from the University of Notre Dame. He is a Certified Public Accountant in Illinois and a member of the AICPA and Illinois CPA Society, for which he serves on the Accounting Principles Committee.

    • Mark is a partner at Deloitte in the Independence, Ethics and Compliance Group, focusing his primary attention on Deloitte’s application of the accounting profession’s independence rules and regulations.

      Mark graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1978 with a B.B.A. degree and a concentration in Accountancy, and served audit clients of the Pittsburgh office of Deloitte for fourteen years. He was admitted as a partner of the firm in 1988 and served primarily large and multinational corporations. He also served as the International Services Coordinator and the Professional Development Director in the Pittsburgh office.

      He relocated to Wilton, Connecticut in 1992 as National Director of Campus Recruiting for Deloitte. He assumed progressively increasing national Human Resources management responsibilities from 1995 through 2005 when he transitioned to his present responsibilities. Mark also served as a member of the Board of Directors and President of the Deloitte Foundation from 1994 to 2006.

      Mark is a CPA and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He has served on the Executive Committee of the American Accounting Association (AAA), the Board of the AAA’s Accounting Program Leadership Group, the Board of Directors of the Federation of Schools of Accountancy, the Academic and Career Development Executive Committee of the AICPA, and the National Advisory Forum of Beta Alpha Psi.

      Mark has served on several committees of the AAA and on the accounting advisory boards of several universities. He is presently a member of the Accountancy Advisory Board of the University of Notre Dame and serves as Deloitte’s lead university partner for Notre Dame.

      Mark and his wife, Deb, reside in Ridgefield, Connecticut and have three children, Rebecca, Sarah and Adam (ages 25, 23 and 9, respectively). Mark is an avid sports fan, particularly golf, football and auto racing.

    • Dana is a partner in Ernst & Young’s Financial Accounting Advisory Services (FAAS) practice with over twelve years of experience. She has specialized knowledge of the operations, controls, valuation, risk management, regulatory reporting and accounting (U.S. GAAP and IFRS) related to trading and investing activities of global financial institutions. Her clients have included major investment banks, diversified financial institutions, trading institutions, insurance companies, and private equity firms.

      Dana worked in the London Financial Services Office from 2001 through 2003 as an audit professional, obtaining experience with U.K. GAAP and U.K. regulatory reporting. In 2003, she joined the On-Call Advisory Services group in New York, where she focused on technical accounting issues in the areas of securitization, derivatives and hedging activities.  Dana served as the senior manager responsible for the UBS Investment Bank global and U.S. audit coordination efforts, which included Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404 first-time adoption and consultation on IFRS and U.S. GAAP accounting matters. She has also worked on various accounting advisory projects, including IFRS assessment and conversion projects.  Dana currently co-leads the FAAS Derivatives and Financial Instruments solution and is focused on delivering business-oriented insights to accounting-driven challenges.

      Dana, a CPA licensed in the State of New York, earned her MS in Accountancy and BBA from the University of Notre Dame. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the New York State Society of CPAs. Dana is an active member of the Ernst & Young Tri-State Professional Women’s Network, the Women’s Bond Club, and NDNY WomenConnect.

      A familiar face to the Notre Dame campus, Dana is part of the Ernst & Young campus recruiting team for Notre Dame. She has spent time in the classroom as a guest lecturer and has presented at Beta Alpha Psi events.  In her spare time, Dana enjoys rooting for the Fighting Irish, traveling with her husband, and spending time with her nieces and nephew.

    • Dick graduated from Notre Dame in 1960 with a B.B.A. degree, majoring in Accountancy. He spent 34 years with Deloitte & Touche LLP, the last 23 years as a partner. He spent his entire career in the Audit function, serving a variety of clients, mostly in the Chicago office. Among the clients he served as Lead Client Services Partner were Deere & Company, General Motors Corporation, Kimberly-Clark Corporation, Navistar International Corporation and Norwest Financial, Inc. Additionally, Dick spent fifteen years in various management roles, including six years as Managing Partner of the Chicago practice.
      In June, 1996, after retiring from D&T, Dick joined the accountancy faculty of the Mendoza College of Business. During his five years in the College, he taught Corporate Financial Reporting in the MBA program, and four different undergraduate courses: Accounting Measurement & Disclosure I and II, Audit and Assurance Services, and Accounting Principles II, the managerial principles course. During this same five year period, his wife, Bonnie, was a member of the Management Department, and served for the last three years as the Program Director of the Center for Ethics and Religious Values in Business.
      In May, 2001, Bonnie and Dick retired—for real this time! They split their living between Chicago and, mostly, Sherman, Connecticut. Bonnie continues to remain very busy as an author of a series of medical textbooks. The third edition of Medical Terminology, and the second edition of Medical Law and Ethics, both were published in 2004. Dick is a member of the Board of Directors of Hollister Incorporated, a multinational medical products company, and also serves as a public member of the Business Conduct Committee of The Chicago Board Options Exchange. They have five adult children, two daughter-in-laws, two son-in-laws, and four grandchildren.

    • James Jaeger is the U.S. Senior Partner for Deloitte Tax LLP. Based in Los Angeles, Mr. Jaeger serves both National and regional clients, as well as works closely with the U.S. Tax CEO in leading a portfolio of National strategic initiatives.

      Mr. Jaeger has been with Deloitte for over 29 years, and has previously served as the U.S. National Managing Partner for Talent, Deputy National Tax Managing Partner, Clients & Markets, Deputy National Tax Managing Partner, Tax Service Lines, Regional Tax Managing Partner, Pacific Southwest, Office Tax Managing Partner, Orange County.

      In previous roles, Mr. Jaeger served on the Operating Committee for the Deloitte U.S. Firms, the Americas Executive Committee, and the Board of Directors for the Deloitte Foundation. Mr. Jaeger has also served on the U.S. Firms Nominating Committee (2006 and 2001).

      Mr. Jaeger is passionate about client service, principle centered leadership, and the development of leadership capabilities in Deloitte professionals. Over the years, he has served as a Dean/ Instructor at several National training seminars.

      Mr. Jaeger is actively involved with the Deloitte U.S. Firms relationship with a number of strategic universities including Georgetown University, the University of Notre Dame, and the University of Southern California (USC). He serves on the Business School Advisory Boards at Notre Dame and USC. Mr. Jaeger was recognized as Alumnus of the Year by Notre Dame’s Department of Accountancy in 2011.

      Mr. Jaeger is a Certified Public Accountant and holds an active license in the state of California. He is also a member of the AICPA and the California Society of CPAs.

      Born in Iowa City, Iowa, Mr. Jaeger is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. Mr. Jaeger currently resides in Laguna Beach, California, with his wife, Michelle and their three daughters, Madeline, Claire Rose and Bailey.

    • John is an audit partner in KPMG’s National Office, its Department of Professional Practice in New York, the firm’s technical advisory group serving its clients and personnel in the areas of accounting, regulatory and auditing issues.  Prior to that, he served one of the firm’s larger financial services clients, Mercedes-Benz Financial Services North America, a captive auto finance subsidiary of Daimler AG, located in Detroit, Michigan.  In addition, he is a SEC reviewing partner serving various public banks and other financial institutions.  Previously, John was the lead audit partner on HSBC North America Holdings, Inc., an indirect wholly owned subsidiary of HSBC Holdings plc.  Prior to his transfer to Chicago in mid-2008, John was responsible for oversight of the audit of Countrywide Financial Corporation’s mortgage banking and capital markets segments.  Prior to joining the LA office in early 2004, he was again a member of the firm’s Department of Professional Practice (DPP) in New York. Prior to his DPP secondment in August 2001, he served a diversified client base of multinational commercial and investment banks which conduct trading and corporate finance activities in the global capital markets.

    • Laly Molina is an International Financial Auditor for the Corporate office of Abbott Laboratories. The role consists of 80% travel to various plants and offices globally and she is responsible for the planning and execution of internal financial statement audits. Laly started with Abbott in May 2010. Prior to Abbott, Laly worked at Deloitte for more than 4 years and has experience serving SEC and private clients in various industries, such as construction, manufacturing and non-for-profit.
      Laly graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 2004, Magna Cum Laude, with a Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy and returned the year after to join the Master of Science in Accountancy program, graduating Cum Laude in 2005. She served as the VP of Social Affairs for Beta Alpha Psi from 2003 to 2005.
