Q: Is there homework and how much?
The outside studying time is about 3 hours per week for the Certificate in Executive Management program. It is designed to keep the program manageable for busy people. You may need to spend a bit more than 3 hours with subjects that aren’t familiar to you, but 3 hours should cover most weeks.
Q: Are there exams or research papers?
Almost all of the assignments outside of class are reading – articles, case studies, etc. Occasionally there is a small online activity that we ask you to complete. There are no term papers assigned and there are no exams.
Q: Do I receive a grade?
Because the course doesn’t include any graded assignments, a grade is not given for the program.
Q: Does the program carry college credit?
The Certificate in Executive Management program is a professional development certificate program and does not carry college credit. We can however grant CEUs and CPEs upon course completion at your request. The CEU (Continuing Education Unit) is a universally recognized measurement of classroom contact hours. The CPE is a measurement of classroom contact hours recognized by the accounting profession.
Q: How is the Certificate in Executive Management program valuable to me?
Certificate in Executive Management is a professional development program that contributes to your overall understanding of how a business or organization operates. The completion of a Notre Dame Certificate in Executive Management shows to your organization or to a potential employer that you have a core understanding of how the various functions of a business or organization contribute to overall goals. Much of what you learn regarding management, leadership and strategy can be immediately put to use the next day in your workplace. The sessions on the domestic and global economies give you perspective on trends that will affect how your organization operates now and in the future. You will be better equipped on many levels – from day-to-day management to seeing the larger picture of the arena in which your organization and industry operates.
Q: Who are the instructors?
The instructors in the program are professors who teach Notre Dame undergraduate and graduate business classes and in Notre Dame executive development programs. Each topic is taught by a professor who is a specialist in his field. Therefore you will have the opportunity to experience perspectives and expertise specific to each topic presented.
Q: Are there any additional expenses, such as books, that need to be purchased?
The price of the program includes all materials including books, presentation materials, business cases, parking, meals, and assessments. There are no additional fees.
