Associate Professional Specialist
Kristen Collett-Schmitt is an associate professional specialist in the Department of Finance. Professor Collett-Schmitt earned a B.A. in economics and sociology from Bellarmine University and a Master of Economics and Ph.D. in economics from North Carolina State University. She teaches microeconomics in the undergraduate studies, Master of Nonprofit Administration (MNA), and Executive MBA programs in the Mendoza College of Business and received the 2013 MNA Outstanding Teacher Award and 2014 Rev. Edmund P. Joyce, C.S.C Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching at the University of Notre Dame.
Professor Collett-Schmitt’s current research focuses on economic education and literacy, encouraging students to develop an interest for economics outside of the classroom through the use of real-world examples. She is published in the Journal of Economics and Economic Education Research and presents her innovative teaching techniques at the American Economic Association’s Conference on Research and Teaching in Economic Education each year. Professor Collett-Schmitt enjoys spending time with her husband and young daughter, and is devoted to the social cause of providing necessities for hospitalized premature infants.
