Web Privacy Guidelines
The following guidelines apply to Web sites maintained by the Mendoza College of Business ("College") in the University of Notre Dame ("University"):
All materials contained in University and College sites are protected by United States copyright law. The right to download and store or output the materials on this site is granted for the user's personal, noncommercial use only, and materials may not be reproduced in any edited form. Any other reproduction, transmission, performance, display, or editing of these materials by any means mechanical or electronic without express written permission of the University is strictly prohibited. Users wishing to obtain permission to reprint or reproduce any materials appearing on this site may contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Our Privacy Commitment
The University and the College value individuals' privacy and actively seeks to preserve the privacy rights of those who share information with us. Your trust is important to us, and we believe you have the right to know how information submitted through our Web site is handled.
As explanation of the College's online information policy and practices, and to assist you in better protecting your privacy, we provide the following privacy notice.
The following information explains the Internet privacy guidelines the College has adopted for its official Web sites. However, in legal terms, it shall not be construed as a contractual agreement or promise, and the College reserves the right to amend it at any time without notice.
College Web space includes hundreds of Web pages with varying levels of College and University involvement and commitment as outlined below.
Official Mendoza College of Business Web Sites
Except as noted, the information in this privacy notice applies to all official College Web sites, which are defined as - the Web pages of Mendoza College of Business, its schools, departments, divisions or other units and any other sites specifically designated as official by a dean, department head or director. Official pages are generally recognizable by a standard page footer carrying the College copyright information and reference to these Web Privacy Guidelines.
Unofficial Web Sites
Within the College domain - signified by the address "business.nd.edu" or within the range of Internet protocol addresses assigned to the College - you may find Web sites over which the University or College has limited or no editorial responsibility or control. Such sites are considered unofficial and include, but are not limited to, the Web pages of individual faculty members or students and the Web pages of student organizations and other entities not formally a part of the College or University. While the College encourages compliance with these Web Privacy Guidelines at such sites, the University and the College are not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of unofficial websites.
Within our website there are also links to non-College websites. When you link to third-party websites, you leave the College"s website and no longer will be subject to our privacy guidelines. The University and the College are not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of non-College websites, and such links are not intended to be an endorsement of those sites nor their content.
THe Information We Collect
When you access official College Web pages, certain client information and essential and nonessential technical information (collectively referred to as "access information") listed below is automatically collected. No other information is actively collected through our official Web sites except when you deliberately send it to us (for example, by clicking a link to send us an e-mail or completing a form to request more information). Examples of the information you might choose to send us are listed below as "optional information."
Access Information (automatically collected)
- Client information: the Internet domain and Internet address of the computer you are using.
- Essential technical information: identification of the page or service you are requesting, type of browser and operating system you are using; and the date and time of access.
- Nonessential technical information: the Internet address of the Web site from which you linked directly to our Web site, and the "cookie information" used to direct and tailor information based on your entry path to the site.
Optional information (deliberately sent)
- when you send us an e-mail: your name, e-mail address, and the content of your e-mail.
- when you complete online forms: all the data you choose to fill in or confirm. This may include credit or debit card information - such as if you are paying a deposit fee or signing up for a program or conference.
The Way We Use Information
As a general rule, the College does not track individual visitor profiles. We do, however, analyze aggregate traffic/access information for marketing campaign effectiveness measurement, resource management and site planning purposes.
We may keep client information from our systems indefinitely after the Web page is transmitted, but we do not actively cross-reference it to the individuals who browse our Web site. However, on rare occasions, such as when a "hacker" attempts to breach computer security or when required by law, logs of access information may be further analyzed and forwarded together with any other relevant information in our possession to law enforcement agencies or relevant University departments.
Some official College Web sites use "cookies" or "tracking pixels." Cookies are small pieces of data stored by the Web browser, often used to remember information about preferences and pages you have visited. Usually a cookie enables the College Web site to provide convenient re-access to secure areas of our site.
By setting preferences in your browser, you can refuse to accept cookies, disable cookies, and remove cookies from your hard drive.
We also use tracking pixels to determine marketing campaign effectiveness, such as to analyze referring sites, actions taken on our site connected to collective users who saw our advertisement and to determine whether a specific advertisement should continue to be displayed to a user.
Optional information enables us to provide services or information as you have specifically requested or to forward your message or inquiry to another entity that is better able to do so.
We use the information you provide about yourself or about someone else when placing a request for service only to complete that order or request, and to suggest follow-up College programs of possible interest. We do not share this information with outside parties, except to the extent necessary to complete that order or request, or as required by law or governmental order.
For e-mail inquiries, we generally use return e-mail addresses only to answer the e-mail we receive. Such addresses are generally not used for any other purpose and are not shared with outside parties, unless express permission is granted or as required by law or governmental order.
OUr Commitment To Data Security
The University and the College are dedicated to preventing unauthorized data access, maintaining data accuracy, and ensuring the appropriate use of information. The College strives to put in place appropriate physical, electronic, and managerial safeguards to secure the information we collect online. These security practices are consistent with the policies of the University.

Please include a subject line of "UNSUBSCRIBE" and in the body of the e-mail specifically note which units (i.e., MBA, Executive Education, etc) within the College from which you wish to unsubscribe. If you do not specify particular units, you will be unsubscribed for all College communications.
