The EthicMark® is an emblem and annual award that recognizes outstanding marketing, advertising, and public relations campaigns and communications designed to uplift the human spirit and society.

The EthicMark® Award’s mission is to foster a shift in the advertising field by demonstrating the power of media campaigns to further both the public interest and legitimate private interests.

The media has tremendous power to shape social attitudes and values, and therefore to serve as a tool to empower individuals and society to find solutions to the pressing social, political, and environmental challenges of our times. The EthicMark® Award recognizes socially responsible media campaigns by businesses, non-profit organizations, or individuals, using print, broadcast or digital media.

Goals of the Award

The EthicMark® Award recognizes socially responsible media campaigns by businesses, non-profit organizations, or individuals, using either the old media—print, radio, and television—or the new media—internet, cable, and wireless communications.

We encourage marketing, advertising, and public relations professionals to achieve their highest visions of media campaigns and communications that demonstrate:

  • The importance of ethics in well-functioning markets in democratic societies
  • The extent to which commercial messages and marketing can simultaneously promote what is good for business and what is good for society and the planet
  • The truth that businesses can do well by doing good, and that those businesses that pay attention to the triple bottom line—profits, people, and the planet—prosper more than those that narrowly focus only on profit.

EthicMark Criteria (must meet)

  • Adhere to the highest ethical standards e.g. integrity, accountability, trustworthiness, transparency, and fairness
  • Respect consumers as human beings (avoid exaggeration, manipulation, exploitation, discrimination or degradation of human beings and animals)
  • Uphold the diversity of cultural and religious values
  • Portray and reinforce healthy lifestyles and behavior that promote social responsibility and/or environmental stewardship
  • Uplift the human spirit and society
