Frequently Asked Questions
Q. When do MSB classes begin?
A. Classes begin in June and are preceded by orientation.
Q. I have an undergraduate degree in business. May I apply for the MSB Program?
A. No. The MSB Program is designed for individuals who have earned bachelor’s degrees in non-business disciplines.
Q. I am a University of Notre Dame Business-Science major. Am I eligible for this program?
A. No. Notre Dame Business-Science undergrads would not be eligible.
Q. Does the MSB Program allow me to waive any courses?
A. No. This is a lock-step program and all courses are required.
Q. Are international students allowed to apply for the MSB Program?
A. Yes. We anticipate 20 percent of the class will be international students. International students are urged to apply by the Round 2 deadline to ensure adequate time for application review, fellowship consideration, visa processing and relocation.
Q. Is there a minimum GMAT score or GPA required?
A. We do not require a minimum score. Applications are considered in their entirety and must include an official test score report, academic transcripts from all previous undergraduate or graduate institutions, two recommendations, one essay, one slide presentation, and, for international applicants, an official TOEFL/PTE/IELTS academic score report.
Q. If I take the GMAT multiple times, what score will you use?
A. Notre Dame wants to see how well you can do. For this reason, we will look at your highest score only. We will not average or penalize you for multiple takes.
Q. May I submit a GRE score in lieu of a GMAT?
A. Yes, we also accept the GRE.
Q. What is the minimum required work experience?
A. The Notre Dame MSB Program is designed for non-business undergraduate alumni who do not have work experience. Those who have post-graduate service experience are eligible to apply.
Q. Do you offer a Fall semester start date?
A. No. The MSB program is an 11-month course of study that begins in June.
Q. What are my chances of getting into your program?
A. It is impossible to assess a candidate without reviewing a completed application packet. Many factors are considered in determining a successful application.
Q. How do I apply for Fellowships?
A. Merit-based fellowships are open to all candidates, regardless of citizenship. These are determined by the Admissions Committee at the same time your application is being evaluated. To apply, please check the appropriate box, which is included on the application form. No additional information is required.
Q. I have a copy of my official transcript. Do I still need to do the Transcript Request Form?
A. As long as it is an official transcript – not a photocopy – and has not been altered, you can submit it directly to us without filling out the Request Form.
Q. I am an international student. When should I apply?
A. In order to ensure that there is enough time to process your visa application, we strongly urge international candidates to apply by the Round 2 deadline. International applications are accepted after this date, but visa processing is not guaranteed to be completed by the start of the program.
Q. Do I have to take the TOEFL/PTE/IELTS?
A. If your native tongue is English, you can waive this requirement. Furthermore, if the entirety of your undergraduate education has been carried out in English, you are eligible to waive the requirement (see below).
Q. The language of instruction throughout my education has been English. Do I still need to take the TOEFL/PTE/IELTS?
A. Verification that your education has been delivered entirely in English should allow you to waive the TOEFL/PTE/IELTS. For consideration, the Admissions Committee requires an official transcript or letter from the academic institution indicating that all academic instruction was conducted in English. Please contact the Admissions Office before you apply to receive a waiver.
Q. I have taken the IELTS, but not the TOEFL/PTE. Is this sufficient for application?
A. Yes. The Notre Dame MSB Program accepts the IELTS.
Q. Do you have a minimum TOEFL/PTE/IELTS score?
A. While we do not have a cut-off TOEFL score, the vast majority of applicants have scored above a 250 on the CBT TOEFL and over 100 on the iBT TOEFL. In regard to the PTE and IELTS, we do not have required scores and have not received enough submissions to release an average score for either test.
Q. I have a three-year degree from an accredited University in India. Does this satisfy the educational requirements?
A. The Admissions Committee will consider candidates with non-traditional educational records (i.e. less than 16 years of education) on a case-by-case basis.
Q. Are loans available to international students without a U.S.-based cosigner?
A. No. However all applicants are eligible to apply for our generous merit-based fellowships.
