University of Notre Dame alumni now can access in-depth company and industry data through a new online resource provided through the co-sponsorship of the Notre Dame Alumni Association, Mendoza College of Business and the Hesburgh Libraries.

Business Insights: Essentials is a dynamic database of in-depth company and industry profiles, brand information, rankings, company histories, investment reports and related news and journal articles—all searchable by company name, ticker symbol, industry code or description, geographic location or personal name.

ND alums can access Business Insights: Essentials by logging in through myNotreDame, the Alumni Association’s secure online community.  Registration is required to use myNotreDame.

“We recognize that our alums often are faced with making decisions or solving problems, both in their personal and professional lives, where having a source of accurate company data would be extremely helpful,” said Elizabeth “Dolly” Duffy, executive director of the Notre Dame Alumni Association. “We’re pleased to add Business Insights: Essentials to the existing resources made available to ND alums.”

Business Insights: Essentials is a product of Gale Cengage Learning, a leading publisher of research and reference resources for libraries, schools and businesses. The database allows users to:

·        Investigate investment opportunities

·        Research businesses and find parent-subsidiary relationships

·        Explore market and industry information, SWOT reports, investment reports and business associations

·        Analyze and compare financial and statistical data with interactive charting tools

·        Study product and brand information

·        Compare companies within an industry

For example, a user can search for a particular industry, such as aerospace or Internet publishing. Business Insights: Essentials returns an overview that includes an industry snapshot, an organization and structure outline, and links to related content including rankings, market research and recent news.

The site also offers features such as an extensive business glossary, Readspeaker (text-to-speech functionality), translation tools for the user interface and article-level translations, citation tools, and interactive charting with the ability to manipulate statistical data and customize charts.
