Sir George W. Buckley, Executive Chairman, 3M Company

Sir George W. Buckley was named Executive Chairman of 3M Company in February, 2012, after serving as 3M Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer since December, 2005. Prior to 3M, since June 2000, he was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brunswick Corp., having previously served as President of Mercury Marine Group, Brunswick’s largest division.
Before joining Brunswick in 1997, he was President of the U. S. Electric Motors Division, and the Automotive and Precision Motors Division at Emerson Electric Co. in St. Louis, Mo. He also served as Chief Technology Officer of Emerson’s worldwide group of motor, electronic drives and appliance-related businesses.
Prior to his responsibilities at Emerson, Sir George was Managing Director (President) of the Central Services Division of the British Railways Board in the United Kingdom, responsible for the railway’s 14 manufacturing plants, R&D, all shared services and major construction projects.
In June, 2012, Sir George will join the private equity firm Arle Capital LLP as Chairman of the Partnership. He will also become Chairman of Expro International, a leading oil field services provider.
Sir George is a Director of the Stanley Black and Decker Company and the Archer Daniels Midland Company.
He completed joint study at the Universities of Southampton and Huddersfield in the United Kingdom, where he was awarded a Ph.D. in Engineering. He also holds a B.Sc. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and an honorary D.Sc. in Engineering from the University of Huddersfield and an honorary LL.D. from St. Thomas University.
